Meet The Candidate

Your Candidate ::

My name is Jumoke Hinton Hodge and I’m working passionately to transform the educational landscape for the students of Oakland Unified School District 3.

As our representative on the School Board I plan to inspire new and old Directors to create comprehensive and holistic educational policies along with practices that inspire a “student-centered district” of young leaders.

What’s At Stake Here:

The world is changing rapidly and our children are inheriting a world of unimagined opportunity and complexity–a world that demands new skills and ideas. Unless we refocus our efforts, to produce comprehensive changes to our school systems, many of our youth will be left behind. Old educational paradigms have shifted and it is imperative that we rethink our ideas on education and child development

There have been so many polite and uneventful conversations about serving the lowest performing students, but now we must stand up and provide leadership that is willing to boldly push for what our students deserve.

We should expect our School Board Directors to have direct experience and a vested interest in the success of our children. As the parent of 4 children, 2 of whom attended Oakland Unified Schools, holistic education and community involvement have been my personal mantras for years.

I’ve also spent the last 20 years of my professional life as an advocate, service provider and consultant in the youth development, community building and mental health fields in the Bay, with the last 6 years focusing on West Oakland.

Each child possesses brilliance, and I believe that as a community of parents, teachers and concerned adults we are responsible for making sure they have the tools they need to achieve excellence.

Our Community :: This is our community and I love seeing our children grow and develop into healthy and responsible adults. If we are to cultivate this growth, it will require an investment and engagement of time, energy, and talent from all of us.

Please support my bid for election to the School Board on June 3rd by sending in a donation, up to the maximum allowed amount, and signing up to volunteer your time and expertise to this campaign. Together we will make sure our children develop the skills they need to create the world they deserve.

Thanks for your time.
