Your five step program sounds great and it sounds like you have the experience that matters. Here’s my problem: In years past, the monies that have been appropriated for the school district for the benefit of the children have been misused/stolen by the board members. What do you intend to do to keep the board honest?

Thanks first of all for commenting.

Board members stealing money????? Where ? When?

Remember board members have had no power in the last six years.
They didn’t loose their power because of their corruption. They lost power because of a deficit. They did a 20% raise over three years for teachers without accounting for declining enrollement trend that began in the early 2000’s

To your question keeping them (us) honest!

I think we should have a transparent process first and foremost. Clearly identify what are the issues we are addressing. Help the public understand fullly the issues.
For example: this past week the chief of finances at OUSD has suggested that we will need to close schools! FEAR! right?!
Reality we are declining enrollment district we need to behave and mange our schools differently.

creatively I think we evaluate what works well, where merger can happen and where we can look at reducing cost, we should look at where we can generate revenue (charters)
But it should be slowed down enough for adequate information/strong fiscal assessment to be provided as well enough time to implement properly or workout in phases. It will be painful but at least it can be upfront and people can know what is happening.

I think schools can eventually be grown, when people renew their faith in the district and we learn how to work with the charters better.

Honesty and Integrity can be modeled. There will be at two new board members from District 1 and 3 we should be able to bring a fresh perspective!!

thanks again for commenting.

We’ll see what is up after tomorrow!

Peace
